Teaching English as a Second Language
A Portfolio of Knowledge and Growth Through Education
About Me
Growing up in Southwest Kansas, I have always been accustomed to the fact that we have students who do not speak or understand English. They must not only learn a new language, but also adjust to a new culture.
I began working on my education degree while living in Germany. That is where my interest was really sparked for helping those who are foreign and new to a language succeed. I was in a new country and unable to communicate with many people, it is hard and can be very scary at times. I am currently in my third year of teaching 4th grade at an elementary school in Southwest Kansas and also serve the district as a lead teacher. We have just over a dozen different languages spoken in our elementary school alone and I want to be able to effectively help all of my students succeed, not just in the classroom, but outside of it and beyond. Those students are why I am pursuing a Master's degree in TESOL from the University of Kansas. |
