Artifact Description
C&T 898: Master's Project
Evidence of Collaboration and Professionalism

One artifact is the minutes from one the Building Leadership Team (BLT) meetings that I attend. I am the fourth grade representative to be on the team and we are responsible for discussing the school and making decisions to improve our school, community relations, and employee morale. If any employees have complaints or concerns, they will bring them to the meeting or share with a member and we, as a group, will discuss and attempt to come up with a plan for improvement. There is not always time to address all items on the agenda and improvement is a never-ending process.

The second item is from my summative evaluation that also shows proof of my willingness to learn and to train others on new technology that we can utilize in our classrooms. The Impact Cycle is a new program we are testing out. I record a lesson, then the principal, literacy, and myself will watch it with a checklist, making notes of what worked and what can be improved. From that, goals are created and we revisit with another lesson that has been recorded, following the same process as before. The goal is to constantly be looking at not only what works, but what can be improved for the next time.

 Rationale

As an educator, it is important to show an interest in the students as well as the school. I have been part of the BLT for my building since I started working there nearly three years ago. We are responsible for making sure we are following our Kansas Educational System for Accreditation (KESA) goals and standards that we have set. These goals have to be communicated to the staff to ensure that everyone is on board with each plan that is made and to offer any assistance when needed. We also review student data to make decisions about what our focus should be on during PLC meetings.

I also lead the district-wide 4th grade meetings that are held during in-services three to four times a year. We discuss our current grade cards, grade card assessments, and any changes we would like to see to make them better for everyone. I have met multiple times with other 4th grade teachers as well as staff from the main office to make some of these changes and assist in creating new assessments. I am always available to all other 4th grade teachers in the district if they have any questions or need assistance.

The Impact Cycle was something that brought to me by my principal this year. This process is a constant learning cycle that begins with lesson preparation and then recording the implementation of the lesson. Once everyone has had a chance to view the video with the checklist, we meet to discuss the positive aspects of the lesson as well as something that can be improved and set goals for the following lessons that I will implement and record in order to do the process all over once again. This is just a small part of what I do to ensure that I continue learning and educating myself on what is best for my students.
